During the Coronavirus crisis, Islamic Ramadan is coming to an end. Many countries, including India, are in a state of blockade to curb the rise in Covid-19 infection rates.

Last month, at the beginning of Ramadan, governments and Islamic leaders around the world urged Muslim communities to pray at home and not to gather during the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the global coronavirus outbreak, this mosque looks empty and has no devotees.

With the upcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations, Islamic leaders urge people to stay indoors and avoid large gatherings on Eid.

Earlier this week, Darul Uloom Deoband, India ’s leading Islamic seminary, issued a warning urging Muslims to pray at Eid al-Fitr at home instead of gathering in mosques. Fatwa said that Eid al-Fitr is offered in the same way as prayers when studying at home on Friday.

The British Muslim Council issued a similar directive asking people to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, in fact to keep the current coronavirus situation in mind.

Islamic State and Gulf countries (such as Saudi Arabia) have extended the blockade period during Eid al-Fitr holiday to maintain an increasing number of coronavirus cases.

Egypt stated that it will advance the curfew time by 4 hours to 5 pm from May 24 before the Eid holiday and stop public transportation within 6 days.

After Ramadan, shops, restaurants, parks and beaches will be closed due to long holidays. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Sunday that restrictions on citizen movement will continue for at least two weeks.

During the coronavirus crisis, Saudi Arabia also imposed a nationwide 24-hour curfew during the Eid holiday. The curfew is from May 23 to May 27.

In Jordan, there will be vehicle traffic restrictions on the first day of Eid. The curfew time will start at 8 pm now instead of 10 pm and continue until 6 am.

On Monday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that a four-day blockade will be implemented nationwide starting May 23 to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the Eid holiday.

According to Islamic tradition, Ramadan is the holiest month of the year and lasts about 28 to 30 days, depending on the moon you see. One month of fasting (fasting from dawn to dusk) is one of the five pillars of Islam and was observed by Muslims all over the world during Ramadan.

The beginning of the day was to eat a meal at dawn, then break the fast after sunset, and said to pray for Maghreb at night.

The fasting period lasts for one month, and the feast is not held until the moon is seen and the holy month of Eid al-Fitr is celebrated.
